Metal icon Rob Halford is celebrating a powerful personal milestone: 40 years of sobriety.

The legendary frontman of Judas Priest recently shared a video message reflecting on the journey that fundamentally reshaped his life. Now 74, Halford spoke with humility and gratitude about the decision he made four decades ago.

“Today I stand here with deep gratitude and thankfulness as I celebrate 40 years of sobriety,” Halford said. “Forty years ago, I made a decision to change the entire course of my life—stepping out of darkness into the light, toward a future I couldn’t yet see. As I’ve said before, it wasn’t easy, and it still isn’t.”

He went on to explain what recovery has meant to him over the years. “Recovery asks for complete honesty, humility, and a willingness to grow one day at a time,” he shared. “With the love and support of my higher power, my family, friends, and fans helping guide the way, I kept moving forward.”

Halford also reflected on the deeper meaning sobriety has brought to his life. “Over these years, I’ve learned that sobriety isn’t just about staying clean,” he said. “It’s about clarity, purpose, and connection—the gift of showing up for my life every day and being present for the people I love.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude for his personal growth and offering encouragement to anyone considering recovery, reminding them that hope, support, and transformation are always possible—one day at a time.
